Spring 2003 - D2 Preview

The SPRING 2003 playoffs will culminate the most competitive regular season in Hockey Long Island history. All divisions saw hotly contested races for playoff seeds and spots right down to the final weekend of the season. Such close races bode for a compelling postseason. Below we provide a preview for the C League. This preview is only intended for discussion fodder and entertainment value. Good luck to all in their ‘Run to the Long Island Cup’.

D2 League

The D2 playoff is literally up for grabs. One point separated the top three during a regular season where each took a turn at the top. Finishing the season in impressive fashion the AVALANCHE secured a well-earned regular season title. The upstart 'Lanche had no problems facing the tougher competition and won the season series among the three. They bring a little of everything to the ice which enables them to play any type of game. Placing second was the GRIZZLIES. The Grizzlies are the most playoff steeled squad having skated in several past playoff epics. Their grizzled, veteran experience is invaluable in the inevitable close matches to be played during these playoffs. Possessing the most explosive offense are the title thirsty LI-BRUINS. Looking to claim their first Fall or Spring crown the Bruins are hungry and look to have their best chance with this potent roster. Can they, however, extinguish the ghosts of playoffs past? Heading in the wrong direction after a blistering start are the MINUTEMEN. In a tale of two seasons, the Minutemen zoomed to a 5-0 start only to limp to 6-6 record. Where their heads are at coming into the playoffs is anyone's guess. The positive is that they are capable of playing with and beating the big three. Can they maintain their focus, however, through the long playoff trek. Happy to be here, the BLUES came from near extinction to just force a fifth place tie. They then went on to win a rare three team play-in and appear to have righted their ship just in time.
