Championship Games
B7 - Irish Eyes Still Smilin' - Nutty Irish defend B title, thwart GN-Bruins 3-2
B6 - Flip Flop - GN-Bruins erase early deficit and pay back Nutty Irishmen 7-4
In a scintillating game, the Nutty Irishmen withstood a furious last gasp to deny the GN-Bruins 3-2 for the B League Championship. With the win, the Nutty Irsh defended their spring B crown and won their second LI Cup in as many campaigns.

This match proved to be more about the two teams' defenses than their vaunted high-powered offenses. Atypically, stay-at-home defensemen and attentive back-checking forwards limited scoring chances as both teams struggled to find time and space to make plays. Predictably, in such a defensive-minded match, scoring cropped from grit and jam and the Irishmen, on a power play, broke threw on a Matt Kelerchian kitchen putback. Nutty doubled their lead, early second, when B League MVP Jack Radin scored another critical playoff goal. Radin, who potted the OT winner in Nutty's first playoff win, scored in each Nutty playoff game and netted seven overall.

The teams traded goals later in the second and Nutty led 3-1 heading into the last. The Bruins, thirsty to end their championship drought, ratcheted up their effort and pressured the Nutty Irish end for much of the third. With six to go, they halved the deficit. From there, the final minutes proved frantic as the Bruins' mad scramble to equalize saw stellar Bryan Clemens goaltending and from-the-gods good fortune; none more fortiitous than an almost ordained bunny hop over a wide open, weakside Bruin stick with just 30 seconds to go.

Championship Games
C5 - Still the Same - Flyers rally in the third to axe Woodstock 6-5 for C League crown
C4 - Not So Fast - Woodstock buzz Flyers 7-2
Trailing entering the third, the Flyers summoned a three goal rally to upend Woodstock 6-5 for the C League Championship. The title is the Flyers' second Long Cup in as many seasons.

A strong Woodstock effort had the Flyers reeling for much of the first two periods. While the Flyers closed the first up 2-1, Woodstock dictated much of the play. Woodstock continued their decided play edge into the second as they fired 20 shots, which yielded three scores, and headed into the last up 4-3. With his Flyer team staggering, C League MVP Zak Stone stepped up. Flashing speed and grit, he carved some time and space to establish an offensive zone presence. His ability to draw attention freed teammates. In the decisive Flyer rally, Stone set up both the tying and game winning goals. Stone, who had four assists in this final match, factored in 10 of the Flyers 17 playoff goals.

Championship Games
D7 - No Doubt About It - Scouts slam Beers 8-2 to win D1 League
D6 - Round of Stout - Beers spot first two goals, battle past Scouts 5-3
Playing with a grit and determination previously lacking, the Scouts controlled play from the drop and convincingly won the D1 championship 8-2 over Beers. The victory is the Scouts first Long Island Cup in just their third HLI season.

The Scouts forged an early two goal lead just five minutes in as they played with requisite championship game intensity. Their initial effort never waned as they consistently pressured a backheeled Beers squad. The Scouts would ultimately stretch their unblemished scoring run to six, rendering the match's latter half to bookkepping. Spearheading the Scouts spirited play was D1 MVP Kevin Lopez. Lopez' speed and tenancity often created positive results and his efforts in this game yielded three goals and a helper. Not surprisingly, the Scouts previous playoff win over the Beers saw another Lopez hat trick.

Championship Games
DD5 - Heaven Sent - Forcing OT at the buzzer, Bolts swipe D2 title from MFD 8-7
DD4 - Doing it the Conway - MFD drench Bolts 7-2, force winner-take-all
Tying the match with half a second remaining, the Bolts cemented their comeback, and D2 crown, 8-7 in sudden death over a floored MFD squad. The championship is the Bolts' second overall LI Cup, first in D2, and first championship in eleven seasons.

While they fortuitously forced overtime, the Bolts earned this championship by thrice rallying from two goal deficits. The final comeback was spurred by D2 MVP Scott Steinel who converted a Bolts power play with just four minutes remaining. Steinel's goal was helped by a Matt Bobko dish and set up the dramatic final ticks. With a MFD title seemingly imminent, the Bolts last desperate push created a crease melee from which the puck squirted weakside to the welcoming and fateful blade of Bobko. Early in overtime, MFD had several choice chances, but their defense leaked a Steinel and Bobko 2-on-1. The pair deftly executed the odd man rush with Steinel going top shelf with the championship winner. Steinel and Bobko each had four goals in this title game and Steinel potted seven overall in the playoffs.

Championship Games
3D5 - Thrilla in the Chilla - In a rousing clash, Scorpions take down Crokers 3-2 for 3D title
3D4 - Bug Bite - Scorpions scrap back, stymie Crokers 4-1
Hanging on by their skate blades, the Scorpions repelled a final mad scramble to deny the Crokers 3-2 and claim the 3D Crown. The championship win is the Scorpion organization's second 3D title and sixth Long Island Cup overall.

This match started as an impending blowout. The Scorpions scored on the first shift and doubled up just 90 seconds later. The battle tested Crokers predictably stabilized the game and halved the lead end of one. The teams traded scoring chances through the second but both sides played tight, tenacious defense with impressive backchecking and shot blocking. With all invested, the intensity and drama built into the third. The Scorpions padded their slim lead on a Dave Montgomery putback four minutes in but the Croker push was inevitable. They tilted the ice in the dwindling minutes as the franticly battled for the necessary two to tie. While the Crokers got one back, they ultimatley could not beat 3D League MVP Rob Phelan. Phelan, who turned away 27 shots in the previous 4-1 win, stoutly denied 11 third period chances. His final two stops were his most impressive. While draped on the ice and tangled in a crease scrum, Phelan stoned dual dead-to-rights shots with under 10 seconds remaining to preserve the Scorpions well earned championship win.

Championship Game
3E6 - Summit - Moose finally raise LI Cup, squeak past Rats 4-3 for first 3E title
Building an early lead they never relinquished, the Moose fended off a late Rats push to secure the 3E title 4-3. This championship win is the first LI Cup for the Moose organization in 14 seasons.

The Moose first period lead was built on three goals in four minutes. Leading the initial offense charge was 3E MVP Joe Minarczyk. Minarczyk scored the first two goals and assisted on the third as the Moose carried play in the opening stanza. In the second period, the Moose quickly answered the Rats first goal with a deflating response just 21 seconds later. With a 4-1 lead, the Moose wavered and needed to withstand an anxious last three minutes that saw the Rats close to one. Overall, Minarczyk contributed in more than half of the Moose playoff goals scoring four and helping on three others.
